Protect Your Skin from Harsh Winter Weather
Wintertime can be so beautiful, but it can wreak havoc on your skin. Bitter temperatures and harsh winds can leave your skin feeling dry, itchy, and unhealthy. Even being inside isn’t the same as in the summer when you are now exposed to central heating drying up your skin. Natural products work best in the winter. Drug store products are often made with petroleum-based ingredients that will further dry out your skin. Natural base oils mixed with essential oils are your best bet. The best time to moisturize is right after the shower while your body is still damp. First, you need to pick a carrier oil. Vegetable oil, grape seed oil, coconut oil and olive oil are all great carrier oils to use that can be easily found at any health food store. Chamomile, Geranium, Frankincense, Lemon, Lavender, and Rose are great essential oils for dry skin. It is generally recommended to use a 2% dilution, which is approximately 12 drops of essential oil per ounce of your carrier oil. These blends are great for your skin and will leave you with significantly better results.
Most importantly when taking care of your skin is to drink water. No matter how well you follow this routine your skin will not be as healthy if you are not drinking a sufficient amount of water.
Lastly, get a massage! Massage therapy greatly increases your circulation, which will leave your skin looking radiant and feeling better than ever. The oils are great for your skin and are especially beneficial when massaged warmly into the skin.
